Madhabdev College, a reputed institution, is located at Bor Narayanpur in the sacred region of Lakhimpur, Assam, near the birthplace of Sri Sri Madhabdev. The Department of Education of this college was established in 1967 by the honorable Sri Gunaram Dutta, who was both the founder and the first Head of the Department. Initially, only general courses were offered; however, in 1975, the honours (major) course was introduced. In 2019, Madhabdev College was upgraded to Madhabdev University.
The Madhabdev University made a significant academic stride by becoming the first university in Assam to introduce the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in the academic session 2022–23, ahead of other institutions in the state. Building on this progressive approach, the Department of Education launched its first postgraduate (PG) programme in 2023.
The department is guided by a clear vision: to empower future educators, deliver quality education, promote research, and nurture responsible, well-rounded individuals. It strives to create an academic environment that supports both intellectual growth and personal development.
At present, the Department of Education offers undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and Ph.D. programmes. It accommodates over 60 students in UG courses, 40 in PG programmes, and currently supports 13 research scholars pursuing doctoral studies. In addition to its academic roles, the department also serves as a psychological counselling centre, contributing to the mental well-being of students.
