The Department was established in 1967 by the honourable Sri Gunaram Dutta. In its initial years, only general courses were offered. Later, in 1975, honours courses were introduced, marking a significant step in the department’s academic development. At present, the department offers a wide range of programmes, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and research courses across various specializations.
The Department of Education introduced its Ph.D. programme in 2023. Since its inception, a total of 13 research scholars have been enrolled in the department.
The Department of Education introduced its M.A. programme in 2023, with an intake capacity of 40 students.
The Department of Education introduced the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in the academic session 2022–23 in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The undergraduate programme has an intake capacity of over 60 students.
